My happy place, with LOVe

My happy place, with LOVe

I am blessed to live and paint between California and Bali. In Bali, as the artist in residence I work in a light filled, grass roofed, open studio at the Onion Collective, a co-living/ working space. The spiritualism of the area and Mother Bali’s blessings serve as constant sources of inspiration for the deep work I focus on.

When painting in La Jolla, California, my family, friends and the beach are what keep me in balance and help me to tap into my spiritual nature. As artist in residence, my studio is a sacred space filled with light. Often I feel called to walk at the oceans edge, inspiring a stream of brightly colored paintings.

Both studios bring me to “The Knowing Field”, the perfect place to create art. Both are spacious enough for co-creations and visiting artists. My studios allow and inspire me to explore different aspects of my inner being and artwork.

It all comes down to love

Family LOVe

Family LOVe

LOVe guides my life and inspires my paintings. I hold the strong desire to share my LOVe with the world, which has motivated me to send my work out into the “internet cosmos” in hopes that other people will feel the LOVe.

Many years ago I experienced the profound experience of my love expanding; the first two times were with my pregnancies, and then again several years ago when I began to meditate. I would capitalize one of the letters of love each time I experienced this growth, I’m almost at full caps now - LOVe.

Each painting is painted on “The Best Day Ever”, a Willis Brothers lesson I adopted. Waking up and acknowledging it is The Best Day Ever, and everyday is a gift means this is the
only day, the only painting, the only yoga practice and the only
paragraph. The Best Whatever it is Ever! With LOVe

Transcending Through Art

Portal to Unity

Portal to Unity

When painting, several hours can go by and the next thing I know I am standing in front of a finished piece. It happens without a memory of painting the work in front of me, and the feeling is that the painting is better than anything I could possibly paint! Leading me to ask myself the same question, what just happened?

Finally after asking many people the question; a published writer Barbara Field, an accomplished musician Aja Lee, even a Jeopardy champion Jerome Vered, all who gave wonderful, but not quite “IT” answers. I finally asked the TM meditation/ quantum physics teacher Nina Meade. She looked at me, tilted her head and said “that’s transcending.” Finally an answer felt right. Now as often as possible, I am deep in a painting meditation supported by angels and muses, with background music from the Willis Brothers or chanting to Raga with artists like Snatam Kaur.

Through my experiences with Family Constellation Healing groups in Bali I have learnt about “The Knowing Field”, a space of being and feeling, rather than thinking. This is for me part of the transcendence process, where my art comes from and where the portals you see on my site were conceived. It’s a wonderful place to be!

My LOVE of art started at a young age and has been consistent throughout my life. Encouraged by a very creative mom, always making the kitchen table, art supplies and classes available to both me and my brother.

Experiences like working on large canvases, slipping and sliding on paint, are some of my most fun childhood memories. Fine art with an emphasis on sculpture was my first university degree, which led me to a career as an interior/ sacred space designer, and then onto a second degree in Environmental Design.

Interiors for me is 3-D art in a functional form. It gives me so much joy to create sacred spaces for people to live, work and thrive in. I have designed spaces of all types, and many
have one or more of my painting adorning the walls.

Later in my career, I began studying painting under Sebastian Capella, a master painter in La Jolla, California. He himself studied at the “School of Sorolla” in Valencia Spain. For seven years I was a student under Sebastian, where I learned a post-impressionistic style, and how to catch light with paint. His famous saying “Paint less, observe more” has stuck with me for life. Many of his lessons are still revealing themselves, as I become finally ready for them, at the Perfect time of course!

My paintings are typically oil paint (many of the portals in acrylic paint). Years ago I fell in love with the viscosity of oil paints. When the consistency of the paint is just right, the flow is so exciting and the effect can be magical. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to grow and explore new mediums and concepts.
