Over 12 years ago I started the practice of taking a personal day off on occasion. It would start with the feeling that I might be getting a cold, and rather than letting my body run down to the point of illness I would have the realization I needed alone and downtime. It has been my most valuable self-care tool and how I keep some balance in life.
Read MoreENERGY CONSERVATIONIST
I have become an energy conservationist!
The environment needs us all to do our part, but I am not speaking about that today. It’s all about personal energy!
Recently after some health challenges (can covid be blamed for everything?) that I am now past I am witnessing myself being cautious on how I use and spend my energy.
If there is a way to group likes, I do it. If I am walking with a friend later, I will skip my morning walking meditation. If I am asked to dinner, I happily will accept. In past times none of these would have happened, I would even flip a dinner invite and offer to cook!
Is personal energy a commodity that needs conserving? I am getting a “hell yes.”
So, all this time and energy saved needs to go somewhere. Again a witness, I am seeing it better used on an inner journey and on relationships. How can I be more deeply and authentically connected is my new question.
And another question arises from that, what gives me more energy? There are a few things that I know of like Kundelini yoga, dancing and meditation, and there must be more!
My homework is to figure out and seek out what gives me more energy and brings me more joy as well! Did I get you thinking?

Slow Down to Speed Up
Have you ever tried to “Slow down to speed up”?
WAIT! That doesn’t even make sense.
Or does it?
Slowing down to speed up.
It’s a concept that was taught to me by one of my spiritual teachers, Milton Willis.
I, like many people, live in a busy world with so many distractions.
Often it feels like I barely get a breath in and it's bedtime.
My To-Do lists seem to get longer, not shorter, and then the lists make babies.
How can slowing down help? I will just get more behind!
This is when clarity, self-care and time-off come in.
My go-to is day-long personal Retreats.
Spiritual Retreats
Self Care Retreats
Creative Retreats
Resting Retreats
With clear Intention,
No cost, no explanations.
You get the idea!
Better for me to take some needed time off, and not to burn out or get sick.
Yep, been there done that!
I retreat from everything and everyone, including devices.
Blocking off an 8 to 10-hour day and saying -
“I am unavailable, I am in a (creative) retreat”.
With commitments like children and responsibilities, strategies get a little trickier.
There was a time when I had a lot of organizing around my family and work.
I slow down and do something that makes me happy, then my perspective shifts.
With Intention, I look at the big picture, and find more clarity,
This is when I notice where I need to cut back.
Retreats always show me where self-care can be improved upon.
Saying NO to extra responsibilities can be one of the greatest forms of self-care.
My retreats have a few consistent rituals, like starting and ending with a meditation.
Healthy lunch, tea, taking a walk, breathwork, light yoga, and a nap are all great too!
The day following a retreat I feel renewed and refreshed.
I am slowed down and happy to be back in my busy, Wabi-Sabi life.
What type of retreat sounds good to you?
Try one of your own retreats and let me know!
We are riding that wave together!

How Powerful Is Intention?
Test it for yourself.
In 1979, at Lawndale Annex in the University of Houston, the head of the Sculpture department, James Surls taught his sketching class how to manifest.
It was a class that changed my life.
And started me on the road to Intention.
Simple!
Open up to the Universe, arms spread wide and hands open while looking up.
Then ask for what you need in the right way.
What does that mean?
The right way!
He said, you’ll figure it out!
So I did.
It's being very clear on what it is you need and coming from a place of gratitude.
It works for me, and it works again and again.
Try it and let me know!

Why Bali Mama? And More About Bali!
Bali calls me and I keep returning.
It started in 2014, with a family vacation.
At first, we spent most of our time at the surfing beaches Dreamland and Padang Padang.
It felt right painting at the beach, even when a sudden rain washed all the paint off!
Toward the end of our stay, we visited the Monkey Forest and Alchemy Restaurant in Ubud.
I didn't want to leave, I felt Mother Bali’s energy it was magical!
Portal Back to Bali was painted after that first visit, it was not the representational painting I usually did.
Instead, a swirly circle came forth, and I realized later it was a portal back to Bali.
That was really exciting for me, the first time I put Intention into my work!
My studies and artwork have shifted since then, now focusing in the direction of Intention.
Bali and a creative studio and work/ live space have called me back many times!
Each time I want to stay longer, do more "deep work”, yoga and create more roots.
And each time I am in Ubud it feels like I meet exactly who I am supposed to meet.
Enter Emily!
At the beginning of 2018, Emily and I had a “harmonic convergence”.
My Intention was to create deep, meaningful, Real relationships and that’s what happened.
Often she amazes me with her gifts and talents, I feel we are truly on this journey together.
Emily calls me her Bali Mama, and from that was born the moniker Bali Mama.
All of the above happened through the awareness of manifesting my Intentions.
Having a clear Intention, opening up to the Universe, and asking for what I wanted in the right way.
Bali’s beautiful energy is felt by many.
The monkeys, the ley lines, the ring of fire and the warm jungle air all swirl together to create paradise!
Check out Emily Milsom here. You will love her, I do!
Intention works. Manifesting works, join me and let me know your experiences!
